Pollen Pants Party!

Updated: Apr 11

These hard working girls are bringing home the pollen! Check out their pollen pants! Amazing & beautiful.

Spring has sprung & Mother Nature is hosting a pollen party. Gardens & forests come alive

with color and activity as blossoms burst open, eager to join the celebration. The Honeybees do not disappoint in putting on their party (pollen) pants. This is really the start of season for these hard working girls. As they flit from flower to flower, their tiny bodies become dusted in golden pollen, transforming them into busy little ambassadors of spring. Worker bees have specialized structures on their hind legs called pollen baskets, or corbiculae, which are concave surfaces fringed with bristles or curved hairs. The pollen baskets allow bees to carry a significant amount of pollen back to the hive, which is then used as food for the larvae and adult bees. Honeybees mix pollen particles with regurgitated nectar and form the mixture into pellets, which cling to their hind legs. The honey bees then deposit the pellets into a cell within the hive by carefully scraping them off using their other legs. Only worker bees have pollen baskets, the queen bee and the drones (males) have none.

During a single trip to collect pollen and nectar, a honeybee typically visits 50 to 100 flowers.

A worker bee will make multiple trips to flowers throughout the day, potentially 12 or more. Bees collect both pollen and nectar during these trips, which are essential for the hive's survival.

The Honeybees, with their diligent work, ensure that the cycle of nature continues, spreading life and beauty wherever they go.
